'Tis for the Birds Thursday

Good afternoon,

This afternoon Room 2 added the feathers that they cut out yesterday to some straw bird bones ('cause bird bones are hollow). Sorry, too busy selotaping to take any pickies. We will fly them next week. Please check with your child that they have got one in their chair bags, and if not please grab some straws and cut out feathers so's they can complete them over the weekend.

Prior to this we discussed the sacrament of baptism, and the four symbols thereof.

Oil, Water, Candle, White Garment

The Italian accents? No particular reason, just seemed like a good idea at the time!

Some of the children were then able to come up and share recollections of their own baptism with us.

Earlier this morning we had one of our final lessons on narratives.

A narrative has a title, an introduction with when, who, where, what, it has a complication, some action and a resolution where it all gets fixed.
Next week we will be writing a narrative writing sample for the portfolios...and summative assessment.

Think TEST!

On that note, have a lovely evening, and I'll CU all in the morning.

Feathery Wednesday

Good afternoon,

This afternoon, as part of our Topic topic, we discussed feathers...which I kind of had to look up on the spot...

...so's we could figure out which bit went where...

...which we related to the bits of a tree...

The tip is the top, the vains is the feather, the shaft is the trunk and the quill is the sticky-outy bit.

We then cut some out to add to some bird skeletons that we're hopping to make tomorrow.

Bye for now,

Mr Grant and Room 2

Beepy Boppy Tuesday

Good afternoon,

Soon after J Team Singing, where we sung this...

...we popped outside to play some hockey.

This is not to say that there was no pen-putting-to-paper...

And a good time was had by all.

CU in the morning, and remember, those house points from yesterday's post are still up for grabs.

Skyhawk Monday

Which is a bit of a silly title for this post, considering we didn't really discuss Skyhawks all that much. I just quickly showed the children this clip after lunch...

...before carrying on with R.E. and the rest of the afternoon.

Here the children share their drawings of Holy Objects...

...which remind them of God.

Prior to that, Mr Leavy came into Room 2 to take a bit of reading while I went into Room 1 to observe Mary's reading lessons.

And a good time was had by all.

CU tomorrow,

Mr Grant

Oh, and for Red Reading Group, please listen to this...

Regular Friday Stuff

Good evening,

This Friday was much like most of the others. A touch of Oral Language...

(in both English and Maori!)

...a bit of a run outside...

Then some Puff the Magic Dragon art...

...which'll take a while to finish.

Then we went for a trot to the library...

...before assembly, free time and ending the day with a game of tag!

Have a great weekend,

Mr Grant

Wobbly Thursday

Good afternoon,

We had a wee shake at lunchtime, which none of the children noticed, but those of us snoozing quietly in the corner of the staffroom (read me!) were briefly stirred from our repose...enough at least to get another coffee!

Subsequent to that we continued our Sacrament lessons by defining Holy...

...and then we discussed why some objects are really special.

After handwriting, we looked at how birds fly. Specifically, how they flap their wings.

So of course, we practiced.

:-)

CU in the morning,

Mr Grant

Oh, and please remember that it's Red House Mufti Day tomorrow.
