Funday Friday

Good afternoon,

And what a lovely afternoon it is.

This morning, after a quick Maori lesson, where we learnt how to say hello to one, then two, then three or more people...

(and no, I did not create this rather cool flip chart!)

...and read He Kuri), we reviewed what to do in an earthquake when we're outside. First go like a turtle...

...then, when its stopped, come over to the basketball court so's Room 2 can all be checked in.

After morning tea, we had our first art lesson for the year.

After lunch, assembly and swimming, we continued on with our story as the children got changed back into their uniforms.

Papa Puss has just been abducted by some Robot Rats!

No, not those ones, these ones...

Thank you all for a wonderful first week, I'll see you all next week.

Have a great weekend,

Mr Grant

Dog

Good evening,

Here is the first of what I hope to be a fair number of Room 2 Readers (that is, books created by the children of the reading books they have been, well, reading) - Dog.

CU in the morning,

Mr Grant

Windy Wednesday

Good afternoon,

Another busy day was has here in Room 2.

A bit of number recognition in the form of colour by numbers...

...as well as another lesson on prayer.

We came to the conclusion that we could pray anywhere. So we did. Outside the church.

I'm blowed if I can figure out what's going on with the colour of these clips.

We hopped back into the pool after lunch...

...and then discussed what to do during earthquakes inside and outside Room 2.

Inbetween topic and swimming we did a spot of handwriting. Well, most of us. Some of us are missing our handwriting books. I'll send out an email to remind some folks this evening.

Bye for now,

Mr Grant

Hot Day Tuesday

Good afternoon,

And what a glorious afternoon it was. Indeed it was just too hot for some...

For the rest of us, a dip in the pool was in order.

While the children got changed we are reading Brave Mama Puss, which I got the children to act parts of afterwards.

Here Papa Puss is being a pop star...

Now, if he can only figure away out of the rubbish dump that he's stuck in...

Earlier in the day we sang happy birthday to my daughter Kelsey (the big 14 today!)...

...and learnt a wee prayer.

Sorry about the strange colours the camera captured. Not sure what's going on there.

Bye for now,

Mr Grant

Day One...

Good afternoon,

We had a lovely day here in Room 2 today.

After a bit of housekeeping and such like, we acted out the shared book One Cold Wet Night, doubling up the characters so that everyone had a part to play.

While the readers read...

...the farmers got up out of the bed and went outside...

...the horses got into the bed...

...and the cows...

...and the sheep...

...and the dogs...

...and the weta.

The farmers came back and shooed everyone out. They all ran out. Skiddle-dee-doo. All except the weta. Which prompted the farmers to declare that they were going to sleep on the couch!

Then, after lunch, and a wee discussion about prayer...

...Room 2 2011 had their first dip in the pool for the school year.

Bit more talking, this time about why we have rules, learning the pack up routines (I missed out a couple of important bits too!), and that was the day.

You will notice, the children did not get any reading books this evening. They will tomorrow, though they may have already had them. Over the next week or so the children will be learning the routines of reading interchange before getting into the nitty gritty of reading instruction.

Which reminds me, I forgot to hand out the printed copy of the Week 1 newsletter. Please pick one up tomorrow morning. They are on the table along with the email checklist.

I think that's about it. See you tomorrow,

Mr Grant
