Mrs O'Neill's Monday...Again...

Good afternoon,

I had my last CRT day for the year today (got very little done, 'cept fiddling around with a J Team Reading Level XL file that, when you input the level that a child is reading it will automatically fill in that number of cells the appropriate colour. Made some sorting macros too...I suspect there's a better way of doing that though...) so Mrs O'Neill was back in the room.

Her day consisted of some writing...

...fitness...

...and handwriting...

...among other stuff.

And a good time was had by all.

By for now,

Mr Grant

Good afternoon,

This morning, after a touch of Maori, where we revisited yesterday's lesson on Maori names for parts of the body...

...and a bit of a run...

...we drew cartoons for Art. Specifically Galoop...

...and Larry the Cucumber from Vegie Tales.

And a good time was had by all.

Have a great weekend,

Mr Grant

Monday Monday

Good afternoon,

Here we go, the last week of the term has begun!

...a bit of that...

...and a bit of the other.

[a clip of Green Reading Group reading Poor Old Polly]

By the way, you should have got a notice home this afternoon that said that there will be no athletics day tomorrow, as the ground is too wet.

Hopefully we'll be on for Thursday instead. Weather permitting.

Bye for now,

Mr Grant

Fine Day Friday

Good afternoon,

'Twas a lovely fine day today.

Quite nice for a spot of running.

Then, just before lunch...

Thank you for the food we eat.
Yum yum.
Thank you for the friends we meet.
Such fun.
Thank you for the birds that sing-a-ling-a-ling.
Thank you God for everything.
Amen.
...we read a story, and then drew characters from it...

...before headeding off to the library.

Have a great weekend,

Mr Grant

Outdoorsy Tuesday

Good afternoon,

And what a lovely afternoon it has been.

We've actually spent a larger-than-average percentage of the day outside.

First for fitness...

...then for P.E.

(I was taking Rooms 11 and 8 for shotput, so...I'm sure Room 2 their athletics activities!)

Though we did spend some time inside this afternoon - J Team Singing.

Watch out those Two Legged Mice!

By the numbers Wednesday

Good afternoon,

This morning, after some fitness...

...Blue Reading Group stayed outside to produce The Donkey in the Lion's Skin, as well as listening to White Group's rendition of Number One!, a perennial favourite from Joy Cowley.

After lunch, we discussed some of the different groups we belong to...

...before going over our Inquiry questions and answers again. Thank you to the many who have already done the hard yards at home.

Much of the same tomorrow,

Have a good night,

Mr Grant

Back To Work Thursday

Good afternoon,

Sorry for my day off yesterday. Migraines. Not pleasant.

Anyhow...this morning the J Team popped outside in the rain for some fitness.

Not so, the Room 2 Readers!

After an inside lunch (when it was that I reaslised that the reason my DVD drive can't read data discs is because it isn't working, this revelation being discovered through my tablet's inability to play Sponge Bob Square Pants for the children while they had lunch!), we discussed the role of the parish.

We also showed how we could be like Jesus...

And then to inquiry. Hmmm, yes, ummm, well...I told the children that, since they had got their big questions sorted, they were now to get your help in finding the answers. Sorry about that. I'm going to have to double check with Mary to see just what can be done at home, and what we need to do in the class. I know the end product will be in the form of a poster, which we've set a lot of time aside to do here in class, it's just the question of what information needs to go on their posters (that they are supposed to do here at school). Soooo...

I'll double check, and get back to you!

Mr Grant

Oh, and I will be here tomorrow, but I won't be as well. I'm taking a Classroom Release Time day tomorrow to do some running records and numeracy assessments, so Mrs O'Neil will be at the helm.

And a good time will be had by all!

Funday Friday

Good afternoon,

Today, after a quick hello...

...Room 2 practiced (and I learnt) the Hokey Tokey in Maori...

...and we created a wee story, one word at a time...

...prior to popping outside for some fitness.

After morning tea, instead of our normal art activities, we continued to work on our inquiry - basically, writing down our wonderings.

...before heading to the library...

...and finishing the week with a game of tag outside. Man some of your children can run quickly!

Have a great weekend,

Mr Grant

New Camera Wednesday

Good afternoon,

Room 2 has just got a new camera. I'm expecting that the improvement over our well used, rather worn out old camera will shine through with the filming of video clips, but in the mean time...

We also discussed the meaning of Privilege, Responsibility and Parish.

Tablet PCs are soooo cooooolll!

Outdoor Tuesday

Good afternoon,

We spent a fair bit of today outside.

First for fitness...

...and then for P.E....

Not to say that we didn't do some of our learning inside. Red Reading Group even shared their text for this morning, T Shirts.

Which reminds me, this was Blue Group's text for today. Te Tio Bay. Blue Group, read along at home.

Bye for now,

Mr Grant

Questioning Monday

Good afternoon,

This morning the Room 2 Readers revisited of an old fitness activity - running the cones.

This afternoon, the children continued to practice asking big questions, and how to know whether the question they are asking is big or small.

Bye for now,

Mr Grant

Friday's Drag'n On...

Good afternoon,

And what a lovely afternoon it is. It is fun to end the week with a game of tag on the playground!

This morning, since we had our art lesson yesterday (see yesterday's post), after watching our latest Digital Big Book...

...which we will be reading in detail next week (sorry about the sound quality, I'm still figuring out how to make the recording better. There's no hiss when it's being played on the board...), we joined in on Jump Jam with the M Team...

...we started out the questioning part of our Flight inquiry by practicing asking small and big questions.

We'll be continuing to work on this next week.

Have a great weekend,

Mr Grant

Father's Friday

Good afternoon,

This morning the Room 2 Interchange Maths class was visited by Father Kevin, who talked to the children about the sacrament of Baptism.

I didn't know this, but the Holy Oil that the priests use is olive oil that has been blessed by the Bishop.

Seeing as it was a bit of a cold old morning tea time, the children ate inside, under the watchful eye of Ashley...

...before a bit of Jump Jam.

After lunch we unexpectedly trotted to the library, seeing as we didn't have assembly.

We were joined there by Room 4.

And a good time was had by all.

Have a great weekend,

Mr Grant. And Galoop.

Oh, the indignity! :-)
