Lend A Hand...

...if you can.

I'm dragging Matthew out with a shovel to join the UC Student Volunteer Army tomorrow.

Once we've bought some shovels!

School's Out Till Monday...

...at the earliest.

Jo has notified us that we are to stay away from school until at least next Monday (and I suspect longer - the city is going to need a lot of port-a-loos, so OLA may have to wait our turn).

Just dug a couple of holes in the back yard...Kelsey is grossed out to the max!

Keep safe,

Mr Grant

I was just looking at Monday's post. Oh how quickly things can change...

Shake Up Tuesday

Oh my, that was rather...umm...

I am pleased to report that everyone in Room 2 was fine during this afternoon's drama.

Apart from Joseph, who is lying on the floor behind my desk.

Mary is also down, but she at least isn't damaged.

As it happened, most of the children had just gone outside after enjoying lunch and a DVD inside...

...the half a dozen or so who were still inside with me dived under the tables just like they should have done before I even realized that this was a little more than an aftershock! In short, they were brilliant.

We then calmly assembled on the courts to watch some liquefaction first hand.

It was kinda fascinating - it didn't start coming out of the ground until a couple of minutes afterwards.

As for tomorrow - stay at home! As for the rest of the week...watch this space, 'cause at the moment I just don't know. I suspect that we'll have the rest of the week off while we're waiting for a structural check. But that's just me.

I'll let you know as soon as I know.

In the mean time, keep safe, and God bless,

Mr Grant

Summertime Monday

Good afternoon,

And a lovely afternoon it is too. Boy we're lucky to have a pool!

These photos were taken as the children were back in the pool after running through the triathlon course.

During our R.E. lesson earlier in the day, we were discussing...

After a quick walk outside...

...we came back and discussed it some more.

Ain't technology grand!

Bye for now,

Mr Grant

Art Day Friday

Good afternoon,

We had our first painting session this year. Painting Galoops...

...as well as a bit of Maori...

...and a final fair well.

We also went swimming, but I was too busy throwing a block for the children to chase to take any pictures!

Have a great weekend,

Mr Grant

Oh yes, and in case anyone wants to practice for the triathlon over the weekend, here is the route.

Triathlon Thursday

Good afternoon,

Only a week to go!

Which also applies to the pool, what with cooler morning's 'n all. So, everyone in while we've still got the opportunity!

See you at 5,

Mr Grant

PS I finally got Tuesday's bike notice out to the children!

Forgetful Wednesday

Good afternoon,

Once again I have forgotten to hand out that that Triathlon notice, bother it. I'll go away and scan it shortly.

In the meantime, we carried on with some ICT for writing...

(tomorrow we'll try to find what we saved today!)

...and more Triathlon training...

...with another swim at the end. Which we kinda didn't really have time for...sorry A Team!

Mr Grant

Just Another Tuesday

Don't get me wrong, that's a good thing!

Good afternoon,

We did a bit of this...

(learning how to save a Word file onto the server - some lovely co-operating going on there)

...and a bit of that...

(practicing for the triathlon...next Thursday...)

...with an extra helping of this too...

(the whole J Team jumped back into the pool for a few minutes afterwards).

And a good time was had by all.

Speaking of the triathlon, there was a notice that was 'sposed to go home this evening that, well, didn't, asking if your child has a bike, and if you would mind lending your child's bike to those who don't have one - when they're not using it themselves, you understand!

I'd digitize it for you, but I've got to get to the Commissioning Mass in town (and find a park) by 4:30.

CU tomorrow,

Mr Grant

Monday Monday

So good to me.

Good afternoon,

This morning the Room 2 Writers began what will be at least a weeks worth (and probably more) of learning on how to use the netbooks for writing. Specifically...
  • How to switch the netbooks on

  • how to log in to the server

  • how to open Word

  • how to input data (how to type!)

  • how to save what has been written

  • and how to open what has been saved from last time

The specific purpose of this being that the children will use the netbooks as an independent writing activity once we start writing groups. Which I will start once I am happy that the children can carry on using the netbooks independently.

Then onto reading. I thought the introduction of the fourth group went quite smoothly.

After lunch Room 2 went out to join the rest of the J Team to practice for the triathlon, by Year groups.

Room 2 then popped back into the pool for an extra couple of minutes just because...well, just because!

And that was our day!

CU tomorrow,

Mr Grant

Oh yes, and Happy Valentines day Tracy!

Treaty Friday

Good afternoon,

This morning kicked off with me out of the room for some unscheduled Class Room Release Time to do some Running Records. Thankfully Kate Rooney (she was teaching Room 9 last year) was able to step in before she steps off to foreign shores in a couple of weeks.

Just before lunch, Room 2 had their very own treaty signing ceremony...

Thank you to those who were able to come along, and thanks Lysa for holding down the treaty as the children signed it - I hadn't really figured on the wind!

After assembly we pretty much finished the day in the pool with Rooms 1 and 8.

And a good time was had by all.

I'm taking home the boys this weekend so's they can say goodbye to Mum before she hops back over the ditch, but I'll work on a rat roster over the weekend. If you haven't expressed interest in bringing them home for the odd weekend, please let me know.

Enjoy your weekend,

Mr Grant

A Busy Thursday

Good afternoon,

It was nice to meet those who came to the 3:30 meeting this afternoon, I am looking forward to the open air liturgy and the second meeting at 6.

Other than that, and the jolt we've just had, nothing much else to report. Indeed, we've been so busy that I only remembered to take photos after lunch! Specifically, practicing for the Triathlon.

CU later then,

Mr Grant
