Helicopter Wednesday

Good afternoon,

This afternoon Mr Briggs brought in his remote controlled helicopters to show us. Cool!

First he flew it outside Rooms 1, 11 and 12 (sorry if it disrupted your afternoon ladies!)...

...and then, since the breeze was a little stronger than it's motor could handle, we went to the hall.

So, we went back outside to fly our own.

Bye for now,

Mr Grant

Hockey Tuesday

Good afternoon,

Thankfully the rain drops held off this afternoon so's we could get out for some hockey.

First some rudimentary skills...

...then a game. Or bash and run around the field. Or whatever you'd call it.

And a good time was had by all!

(I did try to take some shots during reading this morning, but the flash wouldn't charge. Ah well. Room 2's getting another camera in the next couple of days, we'll see how we go then!)

Bye for now,

Mr Grant

The Week Starts with a Bang!

Actually, it was more like a pop. Pop. Pop.

Good afternoon,

This afternoon we ended the day with a bit of a science experiment. We quickly discussed the different type of engines aircraft could have...

...we went outside to make some rockets of our own.

I'm not quite so sure Mr Shae in Room 5 appreciated our... enthusiasm for scientific discovery!

And a good time was had by all.

Prior to this, we, again briefly (there seemed to be people coming and going left right and centre!), discussed the definition of the sacrament of Eucharist.

Gathering to worship God

Friday Friday

Good evening,

Today we did a bit of this...

...and a bit of that...

...and a bit of the other thing.

I would like to offer a special thanks to the children from the senior classes who helped out with our preparation for hosting assembly while I was on duty, and Mrs Clapp who taught the children while I worked out the assembly script.

Thanks girls!

Have a great weekend,

Mr Grant

Air Force Thursday

Good afternoon,

And what a good afternoon it has been.

We went off to the Air Force Museum.

And a fantastic time was had by all.

When we came back, we compared our whirlygigs with the ones we made at Wigram.

Cool!

Thanks Emma, Sarah and Franco for helping out, we couldn't have gone without you.

Flight Wednesday

Good afternoon,

This afternoon Room 2 trotted over to the hall to fly Mr Grant's planes. Unfortunately, they didn't fly quite as well as he'd hoped. Still, it was a good opportunity to have a [very quick] discussion about lift...

Earlier in the day, Red Reading Group finished acting/photographing yesterday's book, Pets, while, for writing we discussed how next week's summative assessment will work.

Next week, the children will be supplied with a picture, and will have to write a narrative story about it (much like the one above that we did as a class this morning). Remember...

...a narrative has a...
  • Title
  • An Introduction with...
    • When
    • Who
    • Where
    • What
  • A Complication
  • Some Action
  • and a Resolution, where it all gets fixed

Feel free to practice at home!

CU tomorrow for the trip to the Air Force Museum.

Remember, as the notice that went home with the other classes, but not Room 2, said...

J TEAM--AIR FORCE MUSEUM TRIP

Dear Parents

A few reminders for our excursion to the Air Force Museum;
The children are to wear their sports uniform. They will be taking their morning tea and lunch with them and we ask that these come in a named plastic bag rather than a lunch box. This is for ease of transporting.

Thank-you in advance for your co-operation.

Regards

J Team Staff

So the children will need...
  • Sports Uniform

  • Morning Tea and Lunch packed in packed in separate plastic bags

  • Water Bottle

  • Pencil

Lucky Dog Tuesday

Good afternoon,

This afternoon, just before we went out for some P.E...

...we learnt a new song during J Team singing. Well, two actually, one that Room 2 learnt yesterday and lead the rest of the J Team with today...

Cheeky little fantail, (Cheeky little fantail,)
Flying through the air, (Flying through the air,)
Snapping at the sandflies, (Snapping at the sandflies,)
Darting everywhere. (Darting everywhere.)
Cheeky little fantail, (Cheeky little fantail,)
Love to see you fly. (Love to see you fly.)
I could never catch you, (I could never catch you,)
Wouldn’t even try. (Wouldn’t even try.)

I love to watch you
Flippin’ flappin’ flippin’ flappin’ flippin’ flappin’
Flippin’ flappin’ everywhere.
I love to watch you
Snippin’ snappin’ snippin’ snappin’ snippin’ snappin’
Snippin’ snappin’ in the air.

Cheeky little fantail, (Cheeky little fantail,)
Flying through the air, (Flying through the air,)
Snippin’ snappin’ snippin’ snappin’ snippin’ snappin’
Snippin’ snappin’ everywhere!

Do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do

...and then this...

I’m just a puppy dog,
A happy kind of guy.
I’m not a fussy dog,
But sometimes I could cry.
When other dogs get biscuit treats
And Pal and Champ and Jellymeat
I think “That would be great!”
But you should see what’s on my plate!
They give me …

Sausages and custard
Covered in mustard
Pizza three days old,
Green deli ham
With blackberry jam
Stuck to the sides of my bowl.
I get their jelly on toast and
Last week’s roast
With a slimy ice cream cone,
All mixed in and
Slopped in a tin –
I think I’ll find my bone!

I’ve tried to whine and bark
At supermarket time
(A slice of dog-roll
Would be absolutely fine).
And even when they buy a tin,
By Wednesday there is nothing in,
So I am “priviledged”
To eat what’s rescued from the fridge.
They give me …

Covered in mustard
Pizza three days old,
Green deli ham
With blackberry jam
Stuck to the sides of my bowl.
I get their jelly on toast and
Last week’s roast
With a slimy ice cream cone,
All mixed in and
Slopped in a tin –
I think I’ll find my bone!

Greasy old chips
In mushroom dip
With coleslaw on the side,
Curry and rice on
Coconut slice –
(It) makes me want to hide.
I know that liver and cake
Was a big mistake –
Mouldy, spongy foam.
It tastes like pureed fruit through an old gumboot.
I think I’ll find my bone!

AT LEAST I’VE GOT MY BONE!

Speaking of entertaining, we had a bit of an unprecedented treat this morning. First Red Group shared their text with us...Danger!

And then White Group shared their text...Wide Mouth Frog.

And a good time was had by all.

Balloon Monday

Good afternoon,

This afternoon, Room 12 hopped over so's we could all discuss, and do some experiments with, hot air balloons.

And a good time was had by all!

We started the day by having out first look at fractions...

...which the children then had to find halves of given numbers...

Later on, during reading...

...Green Reading Group shared their text with us, In a Dark Dark Wood.

Right, best I get going to write yesterday's Week 4 Newsletter!

Father's Friday

Good afternoon,

This morning the Room 2 Interchange Maths class was visited by Father Kevin, who talked to the children about the sacrament of Baptism.

I didn't know this, but the Holy Oil that the priests use is olive oil that has been blessed by the Bishop.

Seeing as it was a bit of a cold old morning tea time, the children ate inside, under the watchful eye of Ashley...

...before a bit of Jump Jam.

After lunch we unexpectedly trotted to the library, seeing as we didn't have assembly.

We were joined there by Room 4.

And a good time was had by all.

Have a great weekend,

Mr Grant. And Galoop.

Oh, the indignity! :-)

Thursday's Just Flown By...

Good afternoon,

This afternoon, after a bit of R.E., where we discussed how baptism is a form of welcome...into the church, that is...and how we welcome others...

...and the significance of our Christian/Baptismal names...

...Room 2 flew the birds that they made at the end of last week.

And a good time was had by all.

Thank you to those of you who were able to help out yesterday, 'twas much appreciated.

Tomorrow is, well, Tuesday. For the morning, anyway. We will be following Tuesday morning's programme, instead of the normal Friday morning programme. Which will mean that we will be having Maths instead of Housekeeping, and Reading instead of Library.

We're switching back to Friday after lunch.

CU in the morning,

Mr Grant

Pigeon Friday

Good afternoon,

We had a bit of excitement this morning (well, more so than usual), when, after fitness...

...we trotted along to Room 12 to have a jolly nice chap show us some of his racing pigeons.

He then sent them home before him, so to speak...

After Art, where we coloured dragon scales in contrasting (opposite) colours...

...(thanks again Sarah) we had our weekly visit to the library (please, if you got an overdue notice, bring the books back to school!), and we joined the A Team who were doing Jump Jam right outside (and were, lets face it, distracting us anyway!)...

...before watching some Veggie Tales over lunch.

And a good time was had by all.

Farewell Hamish, enjoy your trip to Aus, and we hope to see you again when things settle down back here in Christchurch!

Mr Grant
