In Memorium

Good afternoon,

I have some sad news to start this afternoon's post. Rat had to be put down this morning. The lump that I thought was just a large abscess on his undercarriage was discovered to be a tumor by the vet this morning, and Rat was put down before things got worse.

He will be missed.

On a lighter note, we kicked off the day with a new shared book Dad's Snore...

...demonstrated some ways of being a good friend...

...and ended the day with our first look at our Production pieces.

THE FROG KING

Far, far away
There was a spring:
There lived a frog
And the frog was king.
King of the pond
And he would boast
That he was ruler
From coast to coast.

His mighty words
Spread 'cross the land
Until they crossed
O'er the sea's salt strand,
Into the kingdom
Blue and deep
Where the whales swim
And the dolphins leap.

There was a turtle
Brave and free
Said: 'I will go
Test this mystery'.
He swam through rivers,
Lakes and fords
So he could visit
The great frog lord.

And when at last
He reached the spring
There was the frog,
There was the king.
'Bow down before me'
The frog said.
The turtle jumped in
And the frog was dead!

Paradise Island

We go to the sunshine
The paradise island
We go to Jamaica
We crossin' the sea
We go to the sunshine
The paradise island
Where you pick the mango
Right offa the tree

Sunshine in the winter.
Sunshine in the fall.
Kingston Town has never ever
Seen the snow at all!

We go to the sunshine
The paradise island
We go to Jamaica
We crossin' the sea
We go to the sunshine
The paradise island
Where you pick the mango
Right offa the tree

We know the way,
We know the way,
We know the way,
We know the way,
We know the way,
We know the way to be free.

Mento, ska calypso
Listen to the band
If you want a coconut
Just pick one from the sand!

We go to the sunshine
The paradise island
We go to Jamaica
We crossin' the sea
We go to the sunshine
The paradise island
Where you pick the mango
Right offa the tree

We know the way,
We know the way,
We know the way,
We know the way,
We know the way,
We know the way to be free.
(twice)

(together)
We go to the sunshine...
We know the way.,.

BELLY BUTTON BOOGIE

Grandma
This black button comes from Grandad's army demob suit.

Children
Demob suit?

Grandma
With a thin moustache and wide Lapels he looked quite "zoot hirsute"

Children
Zoot hirsute?

Grandma
But this one here is a strange one dear,
It belonged to Auntie Nelly.

Alice
It's got no button holes!

Grandma
Oh no! She wore it in her belly!

Children
Auntie Nelly? In her belly?

Grandma
She was a dancer of repute
In an oriental way
And when she wore her belly button
She would often say:

b b b b b b b
Boo boo belly button boogie
Boo boo belly button boogie
Boo boo belly button boogie
Boo boo belly button boogie
Do the belly belly belly belly
Belly button boogie tonight

Do the belly button boogie
Do the belly button boogie tonight
(belly button, ooh, belly button)
Do the belly button boogie
Do the belly button boogie tonight
(belly button, ooh, belly button)
Do the belly belly belly belly
Belly button boogie tonight

Just do the b - b - boogie
Woogie till you drop
It's Auntie Nelly's favourite
Her belly is never a flop!

Jack
Hey! Grandad!
You've got enough belly to do a belly dance!!

Do the belly button boogie
Do the belly button boogie tonight
(belly button, ooh, belly button)
Do the belly button boogie
Do the belly button boogie tonight
(belly button, ooh, belly button)
Do the belly belly belly belly
Belly button boogie tonight

You wriggle and you jiggle
Wiggle round the floor
With jelly belly Nelly
The evening is never a bore!

Do the belly button boogie
Do the belly button boogie tonight
(belly button, ooh, belly button)
Do the belly button boogie
Do the belly button boogie tonight
(belly button, ooh, belly button)
Do the belly belly belly belly
Belly button boogie tonight

B-b-b-b-b-b-b
Boo boo belly button boogie (x4)

Do the belly belly belly belly Belly belly belly belly

One Day Late Friday

Good morning,

Yesterday I was on CRT (Classroom Release Time) for some RR (Running Records - listening to how well the children read), so R2 was under the expert care of Mrs O'Neil, the RT (Relief Teacher). OK? :-)

One Photo Thursday...

...but two video clips.

Good afternoon,

This afternoon kicked off with a discussion about John 21:9-14, which we essentially summarized thusly...

We then talked about how we could be a bit more like Jesus.

The afternoon then continued with some more work on keeping in time with the beat, this time keeping the four count going around the circle.

And a good time was had by all.

Mr O'Neil will be at the con tomorrow as I am going to be taking reading assessments. Lots of reading assessments.

Keep the Beat Wednesday

Good evening,

Just a quick update this evening, we've only just finished a meeting!

This afternoon I introduced the class to this activity here, and then had the children try to clap at different counts of the beat.

Some were concentrating really hard!

Well done Room 2,

Mr Grant

Oh yeah, and we did a bit of writing, as a whole class...

...writing an introduction for Grumpy Elephant, and, speaking of Big Books on the IWB, this morning we looked at speech marks and italics as featured in King of the Mountain.

Good afternoon,

This morning we had a special visitor to the school. Ronald McDonald. He was sharing some road safety tips with us.

And a good time was had by all!

After a touch of singing...

...Room 2 popped out with Room 11 for a touch of P.E.

Has anyone seen the bucket of Room 2 tennis balls?

One Photo Thursday!

Good afternoon,

Not an especially busy day here today, at least, no more than usual, I just forgot to take photos!

The one photo I did take...

...was while we were discussing this...

Don't forget the Mass tomorrow (11:15) - send the children to school in their fitness gear as usual, they'll change into their uniform just before morning tea.

CU there,

Jesus Loves...Room 2

Good afternoon,

For R.E. this afternoon we read, and then acted out, Mark 10:13-16.

(That's 'sposed to be "Stop. Jesus is far too busy." in the middle there!)

Then, after a touch of handwriting, we did a spot of acting.

Oh, and we also started a new writing topic - narratives.
CU tomorrow,

Thursday. Just a Thursday

Good afternoon,

Another busy day. A measurement post test, a touch of fitness...

...a digital shared book...

...which is pretty cool (even though I say so myself). We can write on this one! I will now integrate these into our reading programme (phonics being shifted forward in the day to be a warm up for writing).

We also constructed a venn diagram about what Jesus ate, what we eat, and what we we eat that Jesus also ate. Come in and have a look see.

We ended the day with a touch of music (keeping the beat) and drama.

Funday Friday tomorrow!

Few Photos Wednesday

Good evening,

Sorry for the late post, we had late meeting, and, well...

Anyway, things were pretty busy at school today. Bit more measuring, but more reading, bit more R.E...

We also learnt and practiced keeping a beat. I tried to show the class this, but, well, for some reason my browser didn't want to look at it. Ah well, I'll try again later...possibly in IE...

Oh, and, surprising as this may seem, I forgot to hand out a notice. So, here it is...
On Tuesday 17th May all of our children will participate in the school cross country. Postponement for th event is Friday 20th May. We will be travelling by bus, leaving school at 9:30am. The cost of bus travel is $3.00. This will be added to your Term 2 school account.

The venue for the cross country this year is at the Halswell Quarry. The course set for the children is at times on uneven terrain. We have assigned a viewing spot for spectators where you will be able to see most of the running course. We do however require the assistance of 10 parents to act as marshals for the course. If you are available for this, please fill in the form below [or tell Abraham Atherton] and return it to your child's teacher by Friday.

All children are required to run in house colours. House points will be awarded for all children who complete the race. Please come along and support your favourite house [green].

All children will require an energy boosting morning tea and plenty of water to drink.

Warm clothing to wear pre and post race is compulsory.

We can only give approximate start times.

All children will walk the course prior to the first race.

12+ year olds - 3km - 10:15am
9 & 10 year olds - 2.4km - 10:30am
Year 3&4 (who are not 9) - 1.8km - 10:45am
Year 1&2 - 0.9km - 11:00am
11 year olds - 3km - 11:20am

We look forward to your support at this cross country event.

Many thanks,

Abraham Atherton
That's so unlike me to forget to hand out stuff...

Teddy Bear Tuesday

Good afternoon,

We started the day applying some more maths to our furry friends. This time we drew the teddy bears' outlines onto some paper, and then measured their various attributes using link cubes.

After a touch of Cross Country prep...

...Red Reading Group lead the rest of the Room 2 Readers in a quick game of Simon Says.

After lunch, and a spot of J Team Singing...

(Three guesses what they're singing here!)

...we went outside to finish the day with working on our ball skills.

Bye for now,

Mr Grant
